Put this rightBritain's grassroots GA heartland — two grass runways, 160 based aircraft and the famous Spitfire Flying Club.
Popham Airfield (EGHP) beside the A303 near Winchester began in 1974 when Jim Espin and the PFA Hampshire Strut carved an airstrip out of Popham Copse. Bought in 1978 by Spitfire collector Charles Church, it has grown into the south of England's premier sport-flying airfield: 160+ based aircraft, 500+ members, microlight and fixed-wing training schools, on-site maintenance (Wiltshire Aviation Maintenance), fuelling, and a café open daily. Home of the Spitfire Flying Club and the LAA Grass Roots Rally.
